Molecular biology is a specialized field and deals with microbes and bacteria and their biochemical processes. Regular biology, kinda glosses over that and expands out to like anatomy and physiology, cells, and tress. From a medicinal stand point, MoBio will serve you better as a doctor then "tree-hugging".

IMO, biochemistry would be my first pick for premed, followed by mo bio, then organic chemistry.

The major that you choose really doesn't make a difference in getting into med school. You would be well prepared with any of those majors, so just pick the area that interests you the most.

TIP: Med schools love to see "different" majors that show a broad spectrum of interests. For example, music majors are looked upon very favorably. As long as you get the pre-requisite courses done you'll be OK. Also, do lots of shadowing and volunteer work throughout your undergrad years.

your major doesn't really make a difference as long if you meet their critical requirements... however i am in the same boat as you and i'm majoring in biological sciences - genetics and cell development. i think this will compliment my career in medicine.

Don't major in any kind of biology unless biology is your passion. It's far better to major in something like English to make your application stand out. You can major in anything you like as long as you complete the prerequisite med school courses:

1 year of general bio with lab
1 year of general chem with lab
1 year of organic chem with lab
1 year of calculus
1 year of physics with lab
1 year of English
